The Entrepreneur’s Credo --- Your Personal Freedom …

Many thanks to John Wax, a fellow entrepreneur and friend. He shares words of wisdom on being an entrepreneur, penned by Thomas Paine in 1776. How timely as we enter into a new season and in light of the discourse in our nation today.

As a nation, we have witnessed a recession and it’s impacts that we have never witnessed before an I pray never again. We have been shaken to our core. And we have come out on top – resilient, toughened and with determined never to let this happen again, through our actions, our vote an our commitment.

Control of one’s career – and therefore their life – is one decision away. The decision to be all you can be on any level. For some, it is being an employee – for others, it is not nd it may just be the right time now to fire yourself.

To break from the norm and strike out on your own as 12% of those in today’s workforce are planning to do. 12%! In the 24 + years I have been in this business, never saw that percentage over 2%. You can do it – 100%, or while working and building your enterprise or as part of your life – doing two or three engagements that equal you “full-time employment” (otherwise known as the Three-Legged Stool).

Please enjoy the Credo – and perhaps it ill inspire you to soar to new heights.

And thank you for reading this. – Dan

The Entrepreneur’s Credo
I do not choose to be a common man,
It is my right to be uncommon if I can,
I seek opportunity not security.
I do not wish to be a kept citizen. Humbled and dulled by having the State look after me.
I want to take the calculated risk; To dream and to build. To fail and to succeed.
I refuse to barter incentive for a dole; I prefer the challenges of life To the guaranteed existence; The thrill of fulfillment To the stale calm of Utopia.
I will not trade freedom for beneficence Nor my dignity for a handout I will never cower before any master Nor bend to any threat. It is my heritage to stand erect.
Proud and unafraid; To think and act for myself, To enjoy the benefit of my creations
And to face the world boldly and say: This, with God’s help, I have done.
All this is what it means To be an Entrepreneur.
Excerpt from Common Sense, written in 1776 by Thomas Paine
